An eclectic blend of acoustic swing and other things.
I never met a genre I didn't like. So, whatever comes out of my side of the room is going to be different and a step ahead of the ordinary. I play a lot of different styles with some originals that reflect all those styles. This is fun for me!!
I've written songs about people I don't know, good, bad and tragic love affairs I've never had, and pie. I've got a song about a migrating salmon and what happens at a zoo after it closes down for the night.
Most of the songs I choose to play are fun and interesting. Generally, I like material that has a quirky story, a humorous slant or just a good beat. Swing, bluegrass, jazz, Americana, blues, a healthy dose of original tunes and classics from the Great American Songbook fill up my sets. Don't get me wrong, I know plenty of songs that people recognize, sing along to or, in some cases, participate. I enhance a lot of tunes with vocal improvisation or "scat."
I choose to engage the audience wherever appropriate. A lot of these songs lend themselves to stories and observations which I like to share with an audience.
I like to play music with other people. Often with a bass, occasionally another guitar, keyboard or other solo instruments. I was part of Small Change, an acoustic swing band, for more than 40 years. When I do enhance my solo presentations with some accompaniment it becomes a "Project" and a fun one at that. There are many local musicians I enjoy playing with. If you need a trio or a quartet we'll put one together. The "Project" can morph into a number of styles and configurations.
